#2 Booyah Boo Rig
We love the 1/4oz Alpine Boo Rig. It is small, easy to cast, and the flex joint that holds your paddle tail swimbait has excellent action. We only like one hook on our A-Rigs. Catching two 5 pound Lake Texoma Striper on one lure turns into a Wild Horse Rodeo once the fish are in the boat. We like to put a 3/8oz Weedless Jighead on the Boo Rig. More on weedless jigheads in this story.
#3 Slab Spoon Lures
If you have only one lure to Striper Fish Lake Texoma, it should be a 1.5oz Chartreuse Slab Spoon with a mylar dressed treble hook. Lake Texoma Striper can be caught on Slab Spoons year-round. We will not get into designs on this blog, but stay tuned, more to come.
Sizes: 2oz 1.5oz 1oz 3/4oz 1/2oz
Colors: Chartreuse, Chrome, Glow White
#4 Sassy Shad
The sassy shad is a must-have in all Lake Texoma Striper Anglers bag of tricks. The four-inch Sassy Shad on a 3/4oz jighead will catch Lake Texoma Striper all year long. This full profile paddle tail swimbait matches the lake’s threadfin shad population.
Sizes: 3″ 4″ 5″
Colors: Silk Chartreuse, Chartreuse Glitter, Threadfin, Glow White, Ice
Jighead Sizes: 1/2oz, 3/4oz, 1oz, 1.5oz
#5 Horsehead Bucktail Jig
Roadrunner Jigs or Horsehead jigs are a bucktail with an underspin blade, and Lake Texoma Striper devour them. Typically fished in the spring along the rocks, this bucktail underspin rigged with a soft plastic trailer will put big fish in the net. Don’t be afraid to fish this jig year-round. #6 Paddle Tail Swimbaits
A small profile paddle tail swimbait is a must-have for Lake Texoma Striper Fishing. The Sassy Shad will not rig weedless, and it is a large profile bait. Striper will key on smaller threadfin shad at certain times of the year, so a more modest 3.5″ swimbait is an excellent choice. The 3.5″ swimbait is an excellent choice for your A-Rigs and weedless jig heads.
Sizes: 3.5″, 5″
Colors: Silk Chartreuse, Ice, Shad, Glow White
Lake Texoma Topwater Fishing
Lake Texoma Striper Fishing from May to October will include top-water feeding. Striper will school up Threadfin and Gizzard Shad into big balls and push the bait to the surface! Lake Texoma Top-Water Plug season is one any angler should NOT miss. The season hits its peak in September. Pods of big Striper will push shad into the sandy shorelines into one foot of water! If you are quiet and have a stealth boat, 10-pound Striper on Pencil Popper plugs are the norm! In the next slides, you will find the best top-water plugs for Lake Texoma Striper.
#7 Pencil Popper
The pencil popper is king on Lake Texoma, and the action on this top-water plug is excellent. The plug is fantastic popped or chugged, and big Striper can not resist the gliding or walk the dog style. The 6-inch model is most common, but please carry the 4.5-inch too. I find the 7-inch a bit too big and can spook fish in less than a foot of water. Sizes: 4.5″, 6″, 7″ Colors: Bone
#8 Super Spook
My favorite Lake Texoma top-water plug is a five-inch Super Spook in Bone or clear. Please note we modify the hooks. A single hook in the back, remove the middle treble, and clip off one of the front trebles. Dressing the rear hook with mylar tubing will increase hookups.
Sizes: 5″ Colors: Bone, Clear
#9 Chug Bug
The Chug Bug is excellent when the wind is significant. Stripers may not see the gliding or walk the dog style of plugs in a heavy wind. A big chug bug grabs the Striped Bass’s attention in a hurry. We like the 3.25″ with a dressed treble for the smaller Striper and the big 4.38″ for the big Striper.
Sizes: 3.25″, 4.38″ Colors: Bone
#10 Wake Baits
If you are not fishing Wake Baits for Striper on Lake Texoma, you miss some big fish! It’s a change of pace for Striper, and they don’t see many because the lures tend to be expensive! If you spend $ 60,000 on a boat, drop $ 20 on a few Wake Baits. Swim these on the surface very slow, then speed them up. The lure will dive 2-3 feet, then stop and it floats to the top! Resume a slow retrieve until you find what the Striper wants. Try 6th Sense Speed Wake Bait and LIVETARGET Mullet Wake Bait.
Size: 4.5″ Colors: Pick your favorite.
#11 Strike King Sexy Dog
Another fantastic Lake Texoma Top-water Plug is Strike King’s Sexy Dog. You could run this lure in Bone and all sizes 3.75″, 4.5″, and 6″ and never buy another top-water plug for Lake Texoma Striper.
#12 Bucktail Jigs
Some lures will always catch Lake Texoma Striper, and the bucktail jig is one of those baits that puts big fish in the net! Run a plastic trailer to add more action.
Colors: Chartreuse, White
Sizes: 1/2oz 3/4oz 1oz 1.5oz 2oz
# 14A Underspin Jigheads
If you are looking for the number between 12 and 14, you won’t find it here! You also should never bring bananas on a boat! Underspin Jig Heads catch Striper on Lake Texoma. Add your favorite swimbait and catch Striper.
Colors: Chartreuse, White
Sizes: 1/2oz, 3/4oz, 1oz
#14 Big Flutter Spoons
Flutter Spoons match the big Gizzard Shad that Lake Texoma Striper love. June, July, and August are big spoon months. October is a good month too! Cast these big spoons into schooling fish and let the lure flutter through the action. Big Striper lay 5-15 feet below the smaller schooling fish and eat dead shad as they fall through the turbulent water.
Sizes: 4.5″, 6″
Colors: Chrome, Gold
#15 Tail Spinners
You will catch a lot of White Bass on tail spinners at Lake Texoma, but it is an often overlooked Striper lure. We use to sell a bunch of 3/4oz and 1oz Tail Spinners to Lake Texoma Tackle Shops. Spillway anglers love them, but they work on the big lake too.
Sizes: 1/2oz, 3/4oz, 1oz
Colors: Chartreuse, Pearl White.
#16 Wildeye Swim Shad
The Storm Wildeye Swim Shad has been an excellent Lake Texoma Striper Lure for a long time. You need some of these in your magic tackle box.
Sizes: 4″, 5″
Colors: Pearl, Chartreuse
#17 Flukes-Jerk Shad
If you DeadStick Lake Texoma Striper in the winter, you will need 3″, 4″, and 5″ flukes. Don’t forget to try flukes on your underspin jig heads, A-Rigs, and Bucktail Jigs.
Sizes: 3″, 4″, 5″
Colors: Ice, Pink, Chartreuse, Shad
#18 Weedless Jig Heads
Weedless Jig Heads are excellent for shallow water in the rocks combat fishing. Fishing the rocks in March calls for a weedless jig head, and it saves some money on lost gear. I like them on my Booyah A-Rig. We always buy weedless jig heads with a blade, and you should too!
Sizes: 1/4oz, 1/2oz
#19 Rattle Trap
Rattle Traps catch Lake Texoma Striper. Fish them shallow, let them sink deep, fish them fast or slow, they catch big fish! Often overlooked on Lake Texoma, but a few in your tackle box is a great idea that can turn a bad day into a great one.
Sizes: 1/2oz, 3/4oz, 1oz
Colors: Chrome
#20 Crankbaits
Square Billed Crankbaits are great for fishing the rocks and the sand on Lake Texoma. Not used a lot for Striper, but should be. Defecting crankbaits off of the rocks in March will produce some big Lake Texoma Striper. You could hang a nice Smallmouth Bass too.
Sizes: 3″, 3.5″
Colors: Sexy Shad
