Lake Texoma Striper Slab Spoon Lures

FAQ: Why do you have so many styles of slab spoons in your tackle box? Slab spoons have come a long way, and now the Tuna Speed Jigs are being made in 1oz and 2oz models. What does Tuna Jigging have to do with Lake Texoma Striper fishing? Vertical Jigging lead lures! Speed Jigs have a plodding rolling style when yoyo jigged that Tuna and Striped Bass love! We carry different style slab spoons that have different fall rates. Lake Texoma Striper like a fluttering slab spoon at times. In the big wind, we like a slab spoon that will fall fast and stay in the strike zone.

FAQ: What is your favorite color slab spoon? Chartreuse will be the most popular color choice, but if we fish deep (30 feet plus), glow in the dark white is our go-to option! The color of your slab spoon will be an angler’s preference. If you have confidence in chartreuse, fish it and fish it well! Another tip we will share is match the slab spoon size with the baitfish Lake Texoma Striper are feeding on! We carry 1/2oz slab spoons and spinning rods-reel in August. Why 1/2oz slab spoons? We match the shad fry that hatch in late summer. Striper gorge on them in August. A spinning rod-reel will cast a 1/2oz slab spoon with ease in the summer wind! Add some mylar flash to the hook of your slab spoons to increase reaction strikes.

What’s In A Lake Texoma Fishing Guides Tackle Box-Swimbait Jig Heads

FAQ: What weight swimbait jig heads do you use on Lake Texoma? I always tell our clients if you only fish in 20 feet of water with zero wind every day, you should use a 1/2oz Sassy Shad Jig Head! We keep several styles and weight ranges of jig heads on our boats at all times. 1/4 oz to 2oz is the weight range. If we are fishing Alabama Rigs, we like 1/8oz, 3/16oz, and 1/4oz. Swimbait jig heads will be thin-shaped to make your soft-plastics have more action. Round ball-shaped jig heads will be used to DeadStick for Striper during the winter on Lake Texoma. Don’t forget to try weed-less jig heads for fishing in brush and shallow rocks! You may have to have a different style of swimbait besides a Sassy Shad, but we will cover this later in the post.

FAQ: What is your favorite Jig Head color? We often buy jig heads in bulk and will take a discount to have the lures raw, no paint. The paddle tail swimbait will be vital for your jig head, not the color. Once again, if you like chartreuse, fish it well! For more information, please follow Jig Heads.

Underspin Jig Heads and Blakemore Roadrunners

What’s In A Lake Texoma Fishing Guides Tackle Box, a Bucktail Jighead with some kind of underpin!  If you Striper fish Lake Texoma without underspin jig heads and a type of bucktail underspin, you are missing a lot of fish. The blade adds flash but, more importantly, changes the fall rate. Try adding a Colorado blade to give your underspin more thump and slower fall rate. Making your artificial lure look natural is key to success for Lake Texoma Striper. Early spring, we fish Blakemore Roadrunners in size 3/4oz and 1/2oz with a ribbon worm trailer. Bucktail adds movement, and the worm trailer can trigger more strikes. Keep it simple with White and Chartreuse roadrunners. Overthinking can ruin a Striper trip on Lake Texoma!

Here is the perfect underspin jig head tackle box for Lake Texoma Striper:

Four Roadrunners 1/2oz Lemmon Shad

Two Roadrunners 3/4oz Lemmon Shad

Four Lazer Trokar Swim Blade 3/8oz

Paddle Tail Swimbaits

FAQ: What is your favorite size and color Sassy Shad? 80% of our Striper Fishing on Lake Texoma is with 4-inch Sassy Shad. When Striper are keying on big Gizzard Shad, we use 5-inch models. July is usually a big sassy shad month. The best advice we give on soft plastic swimbaits, buy two styles, and keep both on the boat. Sassy Shad have a big belly profile but are very difficult to fish weedless. You will want a smaller profile swimbait to fish A-Rigs too. We fish the following colors:

Silk Chartreuse (Banana Yellow)

Glow

Chartreuse Glitter

Pearl-Silver Flake

Keep it simple, and you will catch more Striped Bass on Lake Texoma!

Lake Texoma Topwater Striper Plugs

FAQ: What size and color of topwater lures do your fish? We have two styles we think are a must-have on Lake Texoma. You need a glide bait and a chugger. The Cotton Cordell Pencil Popper is the most common topwater plug on Lake Texoma. We love them and catch big Striper on the 6-inch model. The Pencil Popper is both a glide bait and can be popped or chugged. We like 3″ to 4″ models, then 5″-6″ plugs. Color is very easy, and please do not over-think this one; BONE! You can buy blue and silver, chartreuse, red, and even black, but bone catches Striper on Lake Texoma every day. Save some money and buy bone. If you have to have a second color, try clear! Bonus topwater plug tips:

1) Pinch Down Barbs on all Treble Hooks

2) Add some mylar flash to the back hook

3) Remove the middle Treble Hook on big plugs

Here is the perfect topwater tackle box for Lake Texoma Striper:

Two Bomber BADONK-A-DONK 3.5″ Bone

Two Chug-Bug 3.25″ Chartreuse Ghost

Two Zara Super Spook Clear 5″

Two Pencil Popper 6″ Bone
